Creekside Tales Creekside Tales
Robert and Pearl Simper have lived in the cottage near the creek for forty-five years and this book tells in an easily readable style the story of life in this remote place. It also tells yarns of the many other creeks they have sailed to over this long period in Suffolk, Essex and Kent and the people they have met. The book is based on the River Deben, but it covers many other places around the Thames Estuary and other diverse subjects such as the replica Sutton Hoo Anglo-Saxon ship, rebuilding a sailing barge and the wild life on the river banks.
The book is full of lively stories and good local history illustrated by good colour photographs nearly all taken by Jonathan, Pearl and Robert Simper. The idea of this book was to give a flavour of life of the East Coast of England and record some of the changes that have taken place. This colourful account is further brought to life by the delightful drawings and maps of Lil Tudor Craig of Leiston who has also spent most of her life closely connected with the rivers of South East England. Lil's drawings add an extra dimension to this unique story.
This the thirty-first book by Robert Simper, an author long renowned for his ability to capture with words and photographs the atmosphere of the East Coast, but the first one with all colour photographs.
